No Elections at GNFA Gurdwara
About 550 people signed in for quorum at the Guru Nanak Foundation of America (GNFA) Gurdwara on March 2 to hold election, but the number half that needed. Two weeks later, another quorum was attempted, but only about 200 people signed in. That meant no elections at GNFA this year. The same elected trustees from last year were appointed by the Board of Trustees for this year’s term.
One of the contributing trustees was cast out of the Board of Trustees for not paying her membership fees for the previous year. Even though she had a receipt from the management, the check was never cashed. Rajinder Kaur (Grewal) did not submit a new check, so her position was vacated. But not before having her membership check for this year cashed by the management.
The court case between GNFA (majority trustees) and the opposition trustees is still pending. According to the judge’s order in which the Baksheesh Singh trustees gained a partial victory, the management was to allow the opposition to review the accounts every week. That occurred only once. The opposition has not been given the accounts to review since then.
And for reasons unknown, the GNFA bank account at Sandy Spring National Bank is still frozen as of Dec. It is assumed that the attorney for the Baksheesh Singh trustees is working on that issue. Meanwhile, the management has created a new account at an unknown bank to handle donations which are still coming. But without the main accounts, the GNFA management claims that there is insufficient funds to meet their expenses - namely paying the resident jatha of Bhai Jugmohan Singh Ji. They have not been paid for over three months.
The opposition is still working towards Arbitration, which is required under Maryland law to settle religious disputes. They say that they are in the process of obtaining documents to support their case. The process is expected to take a long time.
