SMART
Evaluates "Bollywood-Hollywood" Washington, DC -- Sikh Mediawatch and Resource Task Force (SMART), cautions that the film Bollywood-Hollywood may include content offensive to some viewers. Sikh parents are warned to monitor children's exposure to the film due to the discussion of prostitution and premarital sex, and stereotypical depiction of Sikhs. The film by writer-director Deepa Mehta was released in parts of the United States in late December 2002, after debuting in Canada in November 2002. SMART recognizes that while many Sikh Americans will be offended by the discussion of prostitution, premarital sex, the presence of Sikh Gurus' pictures, and caricaturing of Sikh characters, the film does not meet the standards of a legal challenge. |
