31, 2003: New York Voices For Freedom (VFF), a human rights group based in New York, has released a report "Hindutva: The Web of Fascism in India" which documents the historical link between the rise of Fascism and the use of that philosophy for the "militant Hindu" agenda of the Rastriya Swayemsevak Sangh (RSS). The report also documents how the RSS form of Fascism is being implemented in India today. Fascism - A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, stringent socioeconomic controls, suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism. The VFF report calls the RSS an umbrella organization of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Shiv Sena (SS), and their political party the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP). These three affiliates are collectively referred to as the 'Sang Parivar.' The VFF report states that "While Adolf Hitler's fascist regime committed genocide supported by the ideology of race purity, the RSS and its affiliates have adopted a similar philosophy with the exception that they are pursuing religious purity." It documents how leaders of the RSS were in direct contact with the Italian fascist government of the late 1930s and admired Hitler's solution to squash the "Jew problem." In India today, the report says that the Sang Parivar is using state-sponsored communal violence to squash the "minority problem." The report details how the killings of innocent Sikhs after the death of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in November of 1984, the murders of innocent Muslims in Gujarat in March of 2002 after the Godra train incident, the destruction of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya which resulted in the killing of thousands of innocent Muslims and Hindus and the massacre of Kashmiri Sikhs during the visit of former President Bill Clinton played out from the RSS agenda. The methods of sexual violence and burning evidence, the report says, are deliberate. The VFF report also documents how the Sang Parivar activists
have climbed the political ladder, influencing homeland and foreign policies.
To implement its agenda, the Sang Parivar is raising a massive amount
of financial support which the report says it receives from various covert
charity groups dispersed throughout India and the Diaspora. Among other
activities, the money is funneled into Indian schools to teach the hatred
and bigotry of Hindutva not only to schools kids, but also to young professionals. The activities of the RSS and the Sang Parivar can qualify them as "Foreign Terrorist Organizations" as defined by the U.S. State Department. One of the most respectable charitable groups linked to the Sang Parivar, cited in the report, is the India Development and Relief Fund (IDRF), a Maryland, U.S. charity which a French human rights group linked to certain violent and sectarian Hindu supremacist organizations in India.
