Listen, O fortunate ones, to my joyful Song,
And all desires of your hearts shall be fulfilled;
When we grasp the Lord in His uttermost supremacy,
All grief must then go from us;
Through listening to the True Word
My griefs, my sicknesses, my torments have departed;
The saints and the holy are filled with joy
When they hear the word from the True Teacher;
One who hears the Word is made pure;
One who speaks the Word is made holy,
The True Guru fills all the beings.
Nanak proclaims: For those who lay themselves
At the True Teacher’s feet, the heavenly music resounds.

--Rag Ramkali, Guru Granth Sahib, page 922

The Sikh Coalition, the Interfaith Center of New York, the Temple of Understanding, and other community organizations held the Annual Interfaith Service of Commitment to the Work of the United Nations. The Sikh Coalition was again asked to recite a Sikh prayer at the opening of the 58th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Service begins promptly at 8:30 a.m. All guests must be seated by 8:15 a.m.
Please do not bring cameras or packages to the service; they will not be allowed into the church for security reasons.

"This second anniversary of 9/11 was day of remembrance as well as a time for joining together in prayers for peace and justice in our lives, our country and our world." This year has been declared the International Year of Freshwater by the United Nations. To show solidarity with the work of the United Nations at this critical time in history the Interfaith Center of New York, the Temple of Understanding, and other NGOs sponsored this Interfaith Prayer Service, to celebrate: Water for Life: Preserving the Earth’s Most Precious Resource.
